I have taken to making metal items in pewter. I 3d print them, create molds in high-temperature silicone, and cast pewter into the mold using a blowtorch and a steel can.
The first thing that I made using this method was a pewter jewelry box that I made for my wife, Solveig, when I proposed to her. Actually, I did not quite finish it on time, so I had to give it to her after I came down to accompany her to law school, but it was still well-received.
